Who will run the new Libya now? Libya (MNN) -- With Libya united to
topple Muammar Gaddafi, the question upon his death is: Whose revolution
was it? There were multiple heavily-armed militias fighting together to
remove the regime, and now that the smoke is clearing, they've laid
claim on a territory and cause. Carl Moeller with Open Doors says there
is reason to be concerned. "There are indications that many of the
elements of the revolution to overthrow him were funded, fueled, and
inspired by extremists. The question is: 'Is the new transition that we
receive going to do any better for religious liberty, Christians, and
basic democracy than what we had before" The insecurity of the future
has many Libyans asking deeper questions and looking for hope. As a
result, "The number of our Bible deliveries and Scripture deliveries has
been greater than in the previous whole nine years of work in that
area," says Moeller. "So we see a tremendous upswing in the desire for
people to have a copy of God's Word and maybe hear the Good News message
of Christ." * Pray that the hunger for God and His Word will continue to
increase in Libya, as well as world-wide. * Pray that the changes in
Libya will accomplish God's ultimate purposes and exalt Him among the

Death toll rises from Turkey quake Turkey (MNN) -- Rescue workers used
both bare hands and heavy machinery to dig into the rubble of Sunday's
massive quake in Turkey. The 7.2 magnitude quake rattled the parts of
Turkey near the Iranian and Kurdish borders. Nearly 300 died and 1300
injured, and many thousands more were homeless when buildings collapsed.
IN Network's Rody Rodeheaver says the death toll is likely to rise as
time passes. "Our director there is assessing the situation. We're
making calls and connecting with the various believers in churches. My
guess would be that those folks will be helping out in a very strategic
way." Their church planting team has responded before to similar
disasters in Turkey, and they will again. "We are called to minister and
to bear the burdens of people, because I think that's part of being a
believer--that's part of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ is being
there to heal wounds and to bring a cup of cold water." * Ask God to
send the funds and the right people to meet the needs of the survivors.

Hope is fading as Turkey searches for quake survivors Turkey (MNN) -- As
of Tuesday, the death toll from the 7.2 magnitude quake in eastern
Turkey was over 400 and rising. Hope is fading for those survivors yet
unreached in the rubble. Immediate needs are for food, water, and
shelter in below-freezing temperatures. In light of more than 200
aftershocks,Pat Melancon with Baptist Global Response says, "In the
past, when earthquakes happened and the aftershocks started, people
refused to sleep in their homes, even if their homes were structurally
sound. So what our teams have done is to go in with tarps, plastic
sheeting, and blankets." BGR has an assessment team on the ground right
now. Recovery will take a long time. Pray for wisdom for the team and
strength for the workers. Also "pray that this would be a very great
opportunity for Christians to step in, to minister to the needs that are
there, and leave in the memory of those survivors not just the fact that
they've been impacted because of their demolished homes or the death of
loved ones, but that they've been impacted by the Gospel." * Ask God for

Flooding closes second airport, threatens Compassion Thailand (MNN) --
Government response to flooding in Thailand could mean devastation for
Compassion International families. Flooding has already killed over 360
people in Thailand, and in the government's attempt to prevent more
flooding damage, Kathy Redmond says Compassion kids are in danger.
"They're trying to open up waterways and that sort of thing to lessen
the flooding. But unfortunately, we have a lot of projects in the way
where they would be opening up those areas." But exactly who would be
affected by flood waters if they were diverted this way? "There would be
about eight projects, and our projects have about 250 kids on average."
Water would flood the already affected project areas. However, "A lot of
the times the flooding can be the least of our issues--it's what comes
after the flooding," says Redmond. That could include disease, house
rebuild, and significant relief work. So far, Compassion doesn't know
what the government will choose to do. Pray with them as they seek to be
Christ to these kids and government officials. * Pray for God's hand of
protection over Compassion staff and the children under their care. *

Turkey earthquake crisis a 'very dangerous time to share the Gospel'
Turkey (MNN) -- Christian teams are still responding to the massive
earthquake that killed over 500 in Turkey on Sunday. In crises such as
these, believers often get excited to share Christ's hope with victims.
But Pastor Karem Koc, who was saved in The Evangelical Alliance
Mission's St. Paul Cultural Center, has a surprising warning: "This is
actually a very dangerous time to share the Gospel." Koc knows from
experience. In 1999, a similar earthquake hit Turkey. As Christians
distributed aid, they also gave Bibles. The effect: years of outreach
efforts were undone. "People think that you are helping them without
really any expectation. And as soon as you share the Gospel or give the
Bible to those people, they really get offended. In our country, people
are already offended by the Gospel itself, so we are very careful how we
do this." Koc is advising ministries to just simply serve for now. "It's
a great time to make some friends; help them, serve them, and just be
the light that the Lord wants us to be." Pray for other opportunities

Court verdict on Iranian pastor issued soon

Iran (MNN) -- The plight of Iranian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani is still up in
the air. Nadarkhani, called a cult leader by some, was charged and convicted
of apostasy and could face the death penalty. While Mission Network News has
been talking about this case for a couple of years, Todd Nettleton with
Voice of the Martyrs says the world is just now waking up. "Secular media
organizations have covered it. U.S. government officials--including the
White House--have spoken out about it. Other officials in other countries
have spoken out on his behalf." Now the government's bring false charges
against him. But why? Nettleton thinks he knows. "The government of Iran is
petrified by the growth of the church in Iran. They are shocked and appalled
at the amount of people leaving Islam to follow Jesus Christ. I think there
is an element of: 'We need to make an example of this guy.'"

* Pray that Pastor Nadarkhani will remain steadfast in his faith and will
not despair.

* Pray that God will exalt His name and protect His sheep in the face of
injustice and persecution.

Violent clashes erupt between Egypt's Christians, police

Egypt (MNN) -- Deadly violent clashes between Christians and security forces
erupted in Egypt last weekend. It started with a Muslim dispute over a
reconstructed church and an unusually violent response from police. Terry
Ascott, CEO of SAT-7 -- a Christian satellite television ministry to the
Middle East and North Africa -- thinks the situation will be a recurring
part of the landscape. "It just reflects pent-up frustration and bad will by
a minority of Muslim peoples who want to marginalize Christians and to keep
them 'in their place.'" Egypt's Christian leaders declared a 3-day mourning
period this week. While staff morale is struggling, Ascott explains that
SAT-7's programming response plays a vital role toward encouraging viewers
toward the peace of Christ. "We'll have Christian leaders there reminding
them of their calling to be 'salt and light,' to be forgiving, to 'turn the
other cheek,' and to be loving in these situations." Keep praying for both
wisdom and boldness for the Gospel.

* Pray for a peaceful resolution.

* Pray for safety and wisdom for ministry leaders.

* Pray that God will give many listeners "ears to hear" the Gospel as
SAT-7 faithfully broadcasts the truth of God's Word.

Government officials resign in protest of Egypt's handling of protest

Egypt (MNN)-- Egypt has lost her finance minister and her deputy prime
minister. Both men resigned in protest over the government's handling of
protests that left 26 dead this week. Open Doors USA President Carl Moeller
says, "I think it's a good sign that the seriousness of this issue is taking
root in the political structures and in the emerging political reality.
Egypt cannot have a future if it chooses to have extremists dictate the
future for Egypt." Muslim/Christian tensions have a low flashpoint right
now. "Pray that the natural, normal emotions of grief don't evolve into
anger and rage to produce a cycle of violence that would further escalate
this crisis." Moeller adds that there is opportunity for Gospel change.
"Egypt is a thought leader; it's the intellectual capital of Islam. We need
to remember that as Egypt goes, so goes most of the Muslim world, so this is
a vital place for us to be targeting our prayers."

* Pray that extremists will not rule in Egypt.

* Pray for believers in the region to find strength and refuge in
Christ.

* Pray for peace to be restored.

Iranian pastor gets retrial

Iran (MNN) -- Sloppy work on the apostasy case against an Iranian pastor has
led to a retrial. For now, it's a reprieve for Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani.
Spokesman for Voice of the Martyrs Canada Greg Musselman adds, "The
Ayatollah Khomeini is getting involved with this, which is very unusual. The
Iranian government is looking for some kind of back door out of this
situation." Prayer and international pressure also played a role in the
decision. While it's good news, the danger hasn't passed yet. "There's still
the possibility that Nadarkhani could be executed at any time. It's a very
erratic kind of government, so we need to pray for him and his family, and
also for the church in Iran that they would continue to be strong, that they
would not be intimidated." There's no date set for a new trial yet. In the
meantime, even though the church is growing, the intimidation poses a risk
to Gospel work. Musselman urges prayer against fear. "We do know that the
church is growing in Iran. Many young people are coming to know the Lord,
but these kinds of cases make it very difficult for Christians."

* Pray that international pressure will have great effect for Pastor
Nadarkhani and others like him who are persecuted for their faith.

* Pray that Pastor Nadarkhani will experience unexplainable peace and
joy despite his circumstances.

Orphan Outreach team in Guatemala as floods kill 13 nearby

Guatemala (MNN) -- A tropical depression has slammed Central America with
heavy rains and is responsible for at least 13 deaths in Guatemala already.
In surrounding nations, many more have lost their lives as a result of the
weather. At least 23 total have been killed, according to reports. An Orphan
Outreach short-term mission team is there in Guatemala, in the midst of the
storm. Trip leader Robin Tompkins says people have died nearby. "We have
heard that eight people have lost their lives in the last 24 hours in
neighboring villages." All members of their team are safe, but their work
has been disrupted. Torrential rains have ruined roads. "There are puddles
everywhere, and you just don't know if roads are going to be washed away or
not." The team is in Guatemala primarily to help with medical needs, but the
rains have affected even that work. "It has caused changes in schedule. In
fact, today was our last day at clinic in Chickmuk, and we had a total of 12
people as opposed to 125 the last two days." The team has been asked to stay
in Guatemala for emergency medical work at a local hospital if needed.

* Pray for the safety of the Orphan Outreach team.

* Pray that the team will be a light to those around them in the midst
of this adversity.

Glaring omissions from Religious Freedom Commission

International (MNN) -- The "Annual Report on International Religious
Freedom" details the world's chronic, long-term violators of religious
rights. Carl Moeller with Open Doors USA says while the awareness is good,
there were notable omissions. "The Congressional Commission on International
Religious Freedom says they recommended Egypt, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan,
Turkmenistan, and Vietnam to be on that list." The omissions weren't lost on
the world stage, and that could cost the U.S. credibility. "If people cannot
trust us to live up to our own values in our laws and in our Constitution,
then how can they be expected to trust us with more economic and military
issues? We will lose allies left and right on these questions as we seek to
influence foreign policy around the world." Why get involved? "These
countries all represent heinous places for Christians to try and live out
their Christian faith. If we are going to stand with the church that is
standing literally against the gates of hell in these situations, we need to
become informed on the conditions that they face."

* Pray for open hearts to the hope of Christ.

* Pray for more advocates on behalf of the persecuted church.

* Pray for strength and boldness for believers.

Death toll likely to rise from rural quake in Northern India

India (MNN) -- Bad weather is hampering emergency relief efforts in the wake
of a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck northern India late last Sunday.
Right now, the death toll is fairly low. However, Daniel Punnose with Gospel
For Asia says, "In talking to our people on the field, the death toll could
be up in the hundreds of thousands because of the rural areas where this
quake hit. People will take a long time to get up into the mountains."
Mudslides, monsoon rains, rock falls, and more aftershocks are preventing
the aid trucks from getting to the worst-hit area. Punnose says, "Wherever
our churches are, immediately the believers will get together and provide
food, shelter, clothing, and bring people to the hospital." GFA has a
long-term response, too. As the crisis calms, despair may set in. Here, too,
GFA teams are the hands and feet of Christ. Says Punnose, "A lot of it has
to do with meeting the physical needs, but also sharing the love of Christ
with them, counseling them, encouraging them and helping them to not feel
like this is the end of their life."

* Ask God to send the right people to meet these needs.

Blast rattles Turkey's capital, sets nerves on edge

Turkey (MNN) -- An explosion rocked downtown Ankara, Turkey Tuesday. The
blast killed three and wounded 34. Though no one claimed responsibility for
the car bomb, fingers are pointing to the Kurdish rebels. More than that,
says IN Network's Rody Rodeheaver, "I think this shows that terrorism can
happen any place. It's very hard to control. It is a continued reminder of
the direction that the world is going in, the insecurities, and the danger."
The fighting is accelerating, but Rodeheaver says their team remains
dedicated to living out the Gospel in a hostile environment. Why? "In the
midst of that," says Rodeheaver, "Christ has called Christians to stand, to
love, to bring healing and peace, and to reach out to people with the great
message of the love of Christ."

Typhoon Roke swipes at Japan's sore spot

Japan (MNN) -- Typhoon Roke took a swipe at the disaster zone in Japan
Wednesday. In its wake, there was more flooding and disruption, but also a
sigh of relief. Joe Handley, president of Asian Access, says their teams
will continue to do what they've been doing in response to the most-recent
situation. "The initial stages were just to get a feel for what was
happening, provide immediate assistance as much as possible, and then to do
a discovery process, finding out what the real needs were on the ground."
Because of the tsunami, A2 teams were already in place and networked. Within
the next three to five years, they're hoping to plant 1000 churches. "The
place where Christ's name has not been very prominent all of a sudden is
becoming quite the story," says Handley. "Churches are a key force for
providing aid. We've come alongside these churches and helped equip them to
be the centers for relief in their communities."

MAF helps cholera/measles epidemic in Congo

Congo, Kinshasa (MNN) -- Cholera and measles are creating havoc in a nation
that's just now beginning to recover from the effects of civil war.
Epidemics of both diseases in the Democratic Republic of Congo highlight a
nation in recovery. Program Manager for Mission Aviation Fellowship West
Congo region Ron Wismer says Congo has been at war basically since 1998. As
a result, "A lot of the vaccination programs have fallen through. And
epidemics like measles are occurring and will continue to occur if we don't
get vaccinations going. Fortunately, we've been able to reach remote areas
with vaccinations and stop some of the spread." MAF has carried medical
staff and 14,000 pounds of vaccines and medical supplies to support 24
mobile clinics. Wismer says MAF pilots serve a dual role as they fight these
diseases. "The pilots are the front-line evangelists. They're trying to help
people understand that we are doing this for more than the humanitarian
aspect, but the spiritual aspect of helping the whole person."

* Pray that God will encourage more people to get involved in the
ministry of MAF.

* Pray that God will protect and encourage MAF staff as they provide
life-giving physical and spiritual aid.

Drought crisis in Horn of Africa unabated

Kenya (MNN) -- Fresh fighting in Somalia has sent thousands of refugees into
Kenya, where refugee camps are over-capacity. Even though a new camp was
opened last weekend to handle the influx, resources are stretched thin.
Keith Wright with Food For the Hungry says through a long-standing presence
in the neighboring countries, they are positioned to be effective. "As we
look at the situation in Somalia, gearing up to work with what is reaching
up to almost 400,000 Somalis that have come over into Kenya, we can reach
them through our base in Kenya." Wright says it's not practical to send aid
directly into Somalia. "Humanitarian workers aren't just 'at risk' --
they're targeted. Any humanitarian supplies are targeted as well." FH teams
in Kenya and Ethiopia are well-coordinated and can mobilize large scale
response quickly. "With the Somalis, that's a tremendous opportunity.
Frankly, at this level of crisis, it's feeding the hungry and clothing the
naked. That's Tier 1, and that is the love of Christ. That's what we're
called to do, but it does open up opportunities."

drought affected people.

* Pray that God would continue to use the multiple outreaches of Food
for the Hungry to bring relief, hope and the right kind of help to
vulnerable children, families and communities.

Hostility toward religion a reality; ministry launches solidarity campaign

International (MNN) -- Nearly a third of the world's total population is
experiencing increasing hostility toward their faith. That's according to a
new Pew Research Center study. The study confirms what Open Doors already
knew. Carl Moeller with Open Doors explains, "Over 70% of the world's
population lives in places where religious liberty is restricted. Well over
100 million Christians right now, as we speak, in over 60 countries, are
being actively persecuted for their faith." So, what do a barbed wire rubber
bracelet and the Gospel have in common? Prayer. Open Doors launched the "One
With Them" campaign because a prayer movement hinges on equal parts
awareness and participation. "By being part of 'One With Them' and going to
onewiththem.com, I can actually show the world that I care and make a
difference." It's a show of solidarity in the run up to this year's
International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church in November. We have

vital that people mobilize those that they know who have opportunity to step

Bloody week in Iraq raises terror concerns

Iraq (MNN) -- Although no one claimed the bloodiest day this year for Iraq,
the attacks this week bore the hallmark of Al Qaeda. Todd Nettleton with
Voice of the Martyrs says the group behind the Monday assault was sending a
message. "When you talk about more than 40 attacks, coordinated all across
the entire country, you're talking about [the enemy saying]: 'We're still
here and we can make a lot of trouble.' I think the other message that
they're sending is: 'You should be very afraid.'" As U.S. troops draw down
and leave Iraq, the Christians left feel unprotected and exposed. Although
there is only a remnant church left in Iraq, those who remain are active in
living the Gospel. Voice of the Martyrs helps to resource them as they
become the hands and feet of Christ. "How do we live out the Gospel? How do
we share our faith with the people around us when there's so much danger and
so much threat simply living out the Christian faith." Pray for boldness and
safety over the remnant. "We can pray for the salvation of the attackers,
the troublemakers, the people in Iraq, to come to know Christ in a personal
way."

Iranian, Syrian ties spell trouble in the Middle East

Iran/Syria (MNN) -- There are growing concerns that Iran and Syria are
becoming fast friends who share not only ideology, but also methodology.
Iran's open backing of Syria has raised some red flags. An alliance raises
concerns due to the brutal repression of Christians in both countries, but
Iran is really calling the shots. Sara Afshari with SAT-7 says, "They like
to achieve power and authority in whatever way they can around those
countries, including Syria, Iraq, and even Bahrain." SAT-7 is a Christian
satellite television ministry to the Middle East and North Africa. SAT-7
PARS is aimed at the young, disillusioned Farsi speakers looking for a
different message. "We are there with the message of hope, the message of
reconciliation, the message of forgiveness, the message of living together
peacefully and in harmony--with the message of the Gospel to heal the
wounds."

India protestors push for change

India (MNN) -- Recent protests in India brought the question of whether or
not the country could risk facing its own "Arab Spring." Dave Stravers with
Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Mission India says, "India is fed up with
governmental corruption and injustice. They're demanding a new standard of
accountability and a new standard for actions from government officials."
While there are some parallels with the Arab Spring, Stravers thinks that
India's diversity will take it a different direction. "There have been
non-violent protests, demonstrations at government buildings. I think this
is actually good news. I attribute this, partly at least, to the success
that the Gospel has had in the last 10-15 years in India." The message of

Join together to pray for burning Britain

 

	Saturday You're invited to Premier's Prayers for a Broken Nation at Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, this Saturday from 2-4pm in response to the current civil unrest. Join with us to represent your local community and pray for the love of God to sweep this land! The prayer event will feature a wide variety of Christian leaders from across the Church and Graham Kendrick will be leading worship. Sunday On Sunday we'd like you to shine a light in your community. We want to see the UK reflecting the presence of God in every area of this land. So, this Sunday evening please take a torch to church and with your friends and family walk around your neighbourhood praying that the light of the Lord would shine brightly. Psalm 116 verse 6 says, 'When I was helpless he saved me'. Our country needs our Saviour. This symbolic act is a practical response to the issues of our day and we believe the Lord will honour our prayers. Thank you

Pray for the peace of the city, may peace be within your homes and security on your streets.

 

Will you join me please in praying for the peace of our cities, and especially for the people of Tottenham?

 

Pray for the family and friends of Mark Duggan as they absorb the shock of his violent and premature death - pray that the circumstances of his death may become clear for everyone to see and that those who loved him will have confidence that justice has been done.

 

Pray for everyone who has been traumatised by the events of the weekend:

            the policemen who have been injured, and their families

            those who have lost homes and businesses

            those who have lost their sense of living in a friendly and safe place.

 

Pray for fire fighters and policemen, for protection from the violence around  them, and for those needing to devise new strategies to cope with the breakdown  of law and order.

 

Pray for our police, that there will be among them exceptional men and women, able to

understand the hopes and fears of all the different individuals and groups they deal with, able to uphold the law with wisdom, integrity and discretion, able to step over prejudice, their own and other people's.

 

Pray for entrepreneurs and business people with drive and energy to create sustainable,

worthwhile jobs for folk living in Tottenham, and across our country.

 

Pray for mothers and fathers to stand steady and faithful at the heart of their families, and offer the disciplines of love, truth and example. May they model how to seek justice without violence.

 

Pray for the young, that they will listen to the voices calling them to live courageously and freely, and will turn away from those influences calling them to alienation and victimhood.

 

Pray for the churches in our cities, in Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Croydon, and especially at High Road, Tottenham, and its minister Peter George - may they be communities of hope and reconciliation, outposts of God's Kingdom that is coming.

Pray for the future when resources may be scarce, jobs and homes hard to come by. May we be those who demonstrate a genuine concern for our neighbours, the salt that resists the tendency to care only for ourselves, the light that reveals all the many dimensions of well being that do not depend on affluence.

 

For the sake of my family and my friends I will say, "peace be within you". Amen.

Dear Friends,
 
We have just heard that Norman Walker, who shares the Isaiah 58, Ministry to Aids Sufferers, with his wife Beverley, has been advised that he has colon [bowel] cancer.  He has had it for over two years according to the  the medical prognosis & it has advanced to other parts of his body.  Due to Normans weak strength, it is considered not possible to operate.
 
In the UK, before coming to Cyprus, Norm & Bev ran care homes.  Although quiet & unassuming, Norman has always made himself available to those who needed help & assistance.  His one pride & joy is his vintage Rolls Royce.
 
Please join with the many who will be interceding to the Father for His loving intervention & suffort at this time, both for Norman & Beverley.  Pray that angels will sing to them both about the deep, deep love of God that passes all understanding.
